When it comes to your child's size, you need to consider three main age groups: newborns, toddlers (around age 3), and toddlers (around age 5). Below are the average heights and weights from 0 months to 5 years, published by Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.
| Age | Height | Weight |
|---|---|---|
| 0–3 months | approx. 50–60 cm | approx. 3.0–5.0 kg |
| 3–6 months | approx. 60–70 cm | approx. 5.0–7.0 kg |
| 6–9 months | approx. 70–75 cm | approx. 7.0–8.5 kg |
| 9–12 months | approx. 75–80 cm | approx. 8.5–10.0 kg |
| 12–18 months | approx. 80–85 cm | approx. 10.0–11.5 kg |
| 18–24 months | approx. 85–90 cm | approx. 11.5–13.0 kg |
| 2 years | approx. 90–95 cm | approx. 13.0–14.5 kg |
| 3 years | approx. 95–100 cm | approx. 14.5–16.0 kg |
| 4 years | approx. 100–110 cm | approx. 16.0–18.0 kg |
| 5 years | approx. 110–115 cm | approx. 18.0–20.0 kg |
According to 2021 data, the average height of babies aged 6 to 12 months is about 75 cm and their weight is roughly 7.0 to 10.0 kg. It is important to remember that these are averages and individual sizes may differ. Unfortunately, specific measurements such as a newborn's arm length, waist size, and leg length vary from child to child.
Children grow a great deal by age 3. The average 3-year-old is about 95 to 100 cm tall and weighs about 14.5 to 16.0 kg. For arm length, bust and waist size, and leg length, it's a good idea for parents to measure their child.
By age 5, children keep growing rapidly. The average 5-year-old is about 110 to 115 cm tall and weighs about 18.0 to 20.0 kg on average. As with other age groups, it's a good idea for parents to measure arm length, waist size, and leg length.
Sizing Tips!
"I chose it thinking it would suit them, but it was too small to wear."
Let's make sure that doesn't happen to you.
Before renting or buying a dress for a wedding, birthday photos, or photos at home, it's a good idea to measure your child's height, chest, waist, and foot size. Moms are busy at this time, I know (^_^;)
Also, children grow very quickly, so if you measure too early, the size may no longer fit on the day, so it may be best to measure about one to two months before and choose the dress then.

- A: Chest – Measure around the widest part of the chest, usually around the underarms.
- B: Waist – Measure around the natural waistline, the narrowest part of the waist.
- C: Dress length – The length from the shoulder of the dress to the hem.
- Foot size – Measure from the heel to the toes. Especially for shoes, even if the length fits, shoes may not fit because of their shape, so allow for a slightly larger size.

Use these measurements as a guide when choosing a dress.
Fit differs between brands and styles, so for each dress, be sure to check the size guide.
For formal wear, getting the right fit is even more important. Formal clothes are often less forgiving than casual clothes, so accurate measurements may matter.
Remember that children grow fast. It's also a good idea to watch your child's growth and measure their size every few months to make sure the baby dress or kids' dress fits properly.
Which Dress Size Do We Recommend?
At Dresharon,
sizes 70 and 80 are for around six months to one year, so Size 1
Around age 3 is Size 3
Around age 5 is Size 5
Remembering this may make it easier to understand sizing.
However, since every child is different, for details we recommend comparing your child's measurements with the dress size. The dress size is listed on each dress's page, so please refer to it.
